The Washington County Historical Society’s annual Statehood Day program will be about Jim Guy Tucker Sr. and “WWI and the Effect on Arkansas.” The program will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, June 11, at the First Christian Church 220 N. College Avenue, Fayetteville.

Garret Kremer-Wright will give an archival presentation — “Answering the Call: James Guy Tucker Sr. and his World War I Experiences” — about the military service of James G. Tucker Sr. during World War I. Tucker achieved the rank of captain in the 353rd Infantry during World War I.

Afterward, former Gov. Jim Guy Tucker and KUAF’s Kyle Kellams will join Kremer-Wright for a discussion of the “War to End All Wars” and the effect it had on the state of Arkansas.

Thanks to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Center for Arkansas History and Culture for the picture of James G. Tucker Sr. as a World War I soldier.

Admission is free and refreshments will be served. Parking is available in the parking deck of the Washington County Courthouse.
