The 94th Illinois Infantry Volunteers completed several months of service in Southern Missouri and Northwest Arkansas, culminating in the Battle of Prairie Grove in December of 1862. The diary of “G. Peters, High Private” begins on January 1, 1863 and continues daily through the month of April, only interrupted during a two-week period when severe illness apparently made G. Peters unable to continue. This soldiers and his comrades contiuned their service in Mississippi, Louisiana, Alabama, and Texas until the end of the war.
