Arkansas Statehood Day in June

Statehood Day is celebrated each June.

The Washington County Historical Society observes Arkansas Statehood Day each year with a lecture or panel discussion on or near June 15, the day that Congress approved Arkansas’s admission as the 25th state.

AR-FlagPast Statehood Day lectures have included author Brooks Blevins, who talked about the changing image of Arkansas; an interview between former Sen. David Pryor and Kyle Kellams of KUAF; a re-enactment of the infamous 1837 knife fight between two state representatives; and a lecture about the history of the Arkansas state flag.

Planning for the 2017 Statehood Day is underway.
